Jordan Love injury updates: Packers QB suffers MCL injury vs. Eagles

The Green Bay Packers made the long trip to Brazil only to fall to the Philadelphia Eagles, 34-29, in their 2024 NFL season opener.

Now the Packers and their fans are hoping to hear good news on the status of quarterback Jordan Love.

Update: According to multiple sources, Love suffered an MCL injury against the Eagles on Friday night. Testing showed that the ACL is intact, but the quarterback did suffer a left knee injury and is expected to miss some time, although the injury is not season-ending.

According to Tom Pelissero, the early indication from the team is that the injury could require Love to miss three-to-six weeks:

Previous: After a short field goal from Eagles kicker Jake Elliott gave the Eagles a five-point lead in the final minute, the Packers had one last chance to steal a win. Green Bay started their final possession on their own 16-yard line with just 22 seconds left, but a long completion from Love to Jayden Reed gave the Packers a glimmer of hope.

On the next play, however, the pocket collapses around Love. While the Packers QB was able to flip the ball to Josh Jacobs who gained eight yards, Love was crumpled between a pair of Eagles defenders, and stayed on the turf for a long period, grasping his left leg:

Love needed to be helped to the sidelines, where he remained for the final two plays of the game.

Backup quarterback Malik Willis, recently acquired by the Packers near the end of training camp, came in for those final two plays. Those plays were an incompletion and a sack.

After the game, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was asked about Loveā€™s status but did not have an update. ā€œI donā€™t know,ā€ was the only answer offered by the Green Bay coach. On Saturday morning Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network shared this on social media, noting that the quarterback ā€œwill have tests on his kneeā€ when the team lands in Green Bay.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic also reported Saturday that according to sources, an ankle injury has been ruled out.

Tom Pelissero shared this update that initial testing showed that the quarterbackā€™s ACL was ā€œintact,ā€ but that more news is expected upon the completion of imaging studies.

Love, who guided the Packers to a stunning blowout victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round a season ago, signed a massive contract extension this offseason.
