Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods are making true their dreams of owning a sports bar. The duo has been granted permission to convert an old cinema in Scotland into a luxury sports bar, T-Squared Social, replete with two movie screens and a bowling alley. What do musician Justin Timberlake and celebrated golfer Tiger Woods have in common? Aside from a shared love of golf, the two are about to share a luxury sports bar in Scotland together. T-Squared Social, a luxury gastro pub and sports bar, of which one location already exists in Manhattan, will open a second location in the home of golf, St. Andrews in Scotland.
The duo recently received approval to convert an old cinema, the New Picture House, into their newest T-Squared location. The cinema will retain two movie screens, providing bar patrons with entertainment, in addition to the sports simulators, duckpin bowling and darts, and other sports bar games and activities.
Fife Council says the application from real estate company Nexus Luxury Collection, of which Woods and Timberlake are shareholders, would “protect and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area,” ensuring the historic building will retain the essence of what made it an iconic landmark in the area. Approximately 40 to 45 jobs will be created as a result of the building’s redevelopment.Planning documents reveal the cinema’s owners, who are pleased with the bar proposal, would have to close the New Picture House if there was no change to the site. The cinema “currently runs at under 10 percent occupancy and is no longer a viable stand-alone cinema operation.”
The cinema first opened in 1930, and offers seating for 700 people. Some of the building’s key features, including its ceiling, walls, and stage, will be retained in the remodel. Under the terms of approval for the project, work must begin within the next three years.
According to the documents, the bar plan will enable St. Andrews residents to “experience a broader range of cinema, dining, and entertainment,” and will be “crucial in helping to secure a cinema offering going forward” in the area.
“We are taking great care to preserve and celebrate the historic architecture and design of the theatre and continue its tradition of showcasing great films,” said Christopher Anand, Nexus Partners CEO and managing partner.
Woods says he and Timberlake came up with the idea of the luxury sports bar during a round of golf at their shared development in the Bahamas. The former world champion played at St. Andrews at the 150th Open Championship in 2022, and says he has enjoyed “many special moments” in the area. He hopes T-Squared Social would be a “welcoming place” for locals and tourists.Timberlake, who was arrested for drunk driving in New York last month, has played golf in St. Andrews in the past, including the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2019.
