Kansas vs. Arkansas final score, results: Razorbacks advance off the back of Jonas Aidoo’s scoring outburst

The Round of 64 matchup between 10-seed Arkansas and 7-seed Kansas was billed as a battle of tactical titans. The subsequent joust more than delivered on the hype; the Razorbacks and Jayhawks traded blows like prizefighters, with each possession offering the game’s participants a chance to conjure up new highlights.

In the end, it was Arkansas that landed the most punishing of shots. John Calipari’s side huffed, puffed and eventually emerged from the chaos, nabbing a 79-72 victory over Bill Self’s Kansas on Thursday night.

The match was highly competitive, with both squads showcasing impressive resilience at moments. The Hogs opened up a 10-point advantage to start the second half, fueled by strong displays by DJ Wagner, Johnell Davis and Jonas Aidoo.

The Jayhawks responded with a flourish of their own, riding KJ Adams, AJ Storr and Dajuan Harris’ second-half heroics to take the lead.

Self’s zone quelled Arkansas’ scoring tide. The Razorbacks went more than four minutes without a basket, unable to get the ball into Aidoo — the game’s leading scorer with 22 points.

But Kansas’ scoring would soon thaw. After surrendering the ball six times in four minutes, Calipari’s bunch took the lead. It wouldn’t relinquish its advantage, giving Calipari a bit of revenge after his Memphis side lost to Self’s Jayhawks in  the 2008 NCAA title game.

The Sporting News tracked  live updates from Thursday’s prizefight between No. 8-seeded Kansas and No. 9-seeded Arkansas. Below are highlights, live analysis and more as Self and Caliparii rekindle their rivalry beneath the gleaming Amica Mutual Pavilion spotlight.
