Kanye West Announces Shanghai Show

Despite his busy schedule—declaring himself a Nazi, parading his wife Bianca Censori around naked, and praising P Diddy as an upstanding gentleman—it seems Kanye West has still found time for a show in Shanghai.

‘Ye Live in Shanghai’ is set for July 12 at Shanghai Stadium, which can host up to 80,000 people for concerts.

Early indications suggest that size of a venue is required, as close to 78,000 have tagged “I want to see it” on ticketing platform Damai (at the time of writing—and it surely will have surpassed that number by the time you are reading).

It would not be West’s first time in China should the controversial figure make his appearance. The musician—who lost his billionaire status after an antisemitic rant—took to the stage in front of 42,000 fans at the Wuyuan River Sports Stadium in Haikou, capital of Hainan Province, last September.

Back in 2008, he brought his Glow in the Dark tour to Hongkou Football Stadium right here in Shanghai, when shutter shades were the uniform of the day.

And, as all true China Yeezy fans know, at the age of 10, West moved with his mother Donda to Nanjing, where Donda was a lecturer at Nanjing University.

“I love China,” West told Forbes in a 2020 interview. “It changed my life. It changed my perspective, it gave me such a wide perspective.”

So is the feeling mutual?

While there might be a buzz for tickets, local authorities in Hainan reportedly received a string of public complaints following their decision to green light last year’s gig, with many objecting to the rapper’s lyrics and behavior.

Given that said behavior has only seemed to get more bizarre in the interim, and it will be interesting to see if he actually is here for a show in just over a fortnight’s time.
