Kerry Washington’s ‘UnPrisoned’ Canceled After 2 Seasons
Kerry Washington reveals that UnPrisoned has been canceled after two seasons. Sharing the news Friday morning (Sept. 27) on social media, the actress explains why she wanted viewers to learn of the unfortunate decision from her point of view.
“Ladies & Gents, that is a wrap on Unprisoned,” wrote the 47-year-old on X. “This beautiful show that we poured so much of our hearts and souls into is unfortunately not coming back for a Season 3. But I wanted you to hear it from me because while we’re super duper disappointed, we’re also crazy deeply grateful.”
She continued, “Making this show was a labor of love. And we know that so many of you found connection and healing with The Alexander Family – and that their impact will live on!”
“A PTCD Christmas Carole” – While Edwin and the family deck the halls and jingle the bells, Paige must get to the bottom of why she doesn’t like Christmas before she ends up ruining it for everyone — and in the process has a major revelation and a healing.

UnPrisoned, which streamed on Hulu as part of the Onyx Collective, starred Washington, as well as Delroy Lindo, Faly Rakotohavana, Marque Richardson, Jordyn McIntosh, and Jee Young Han. It originally debuted in 2023, with the second season dropping in July 2024. The series was created by author Tracy McMillan, and loosely based on her life experiences.
In its 2023 introduction, UnPrisoned earned the highest premiere viewership at the time for an Onyx Collective show on Hulu. It also earned status as the most-watched premiere on the streaming app in terms of hours for 2023 upon release.

“I wanted to show a family that every person in America would identify with, even though they’re facing very specific circumstances,” detailed McMillan.
The series was also executive-produced by McMillan. Yvette Lee Bowser also executive produced along with Washington and Pilar Savone through Washington’s Simpson Street banner, as well as Lindo. Joy Gorman Wettels and Jen Braeden also executive produce, with ABC Signature as the studio.
