Kevin Hart says he understands why Tom Brady wanted to ‘protect’ his family amid roast regrets
Kevin Hart understands why Tom Brady had some regrets about the wildly successful “Roast of Tom Brady” Netflix special that dropped in May.
“I can side with time and see where he’s coming from and just him wanting to protect the idea of family and the conversation attached to that. That’s probably where that’s coming from,” the comedian, 45, recently said during an interview with Bleacher Report.
“And you know, I’m not privy to whatever he dealt with after, so I know his response and saying something about it was a result of possibly that.”

After the May 5 roast, Brady, 46, admitted on “The Pivot” podcast that he “didn’t like” the way his children were “affected” by the jokes made about his exes Gisele Bündchen and Bridget Moynahan.
“It’s the hardest part about the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize, ‘I wouldn’t do that again,’ because of the way that affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world,” he explained.
The retired NFL star shares 16-year-old son John “Jack” Edward Thomas with Moynahan, plus son Benjamin Rein, 14, and daughter Vivian Lake, 11, with his ex-wife, Bündchen.

Brady, however, said he “loved” when the jokes were solely about him.
Hart suggested to Bleacher Report that the seven-time Super Bowl champion didn’t necessarily regret the roast but wished things were done differently.
“When he says he regretted doing it … I think he’s saying, ‘I could have tapered it a little differently, or [had] a conversation pre-[roast], of like, ‘Guys, let’s go and do this, but let’s not touch this or this,’” he said.
Hart added, “The idea of going all in and just saying, ‘I don’t care, because I know the world would love to see me being on the receiving end of s–t because I’m Tom Brady and I’ve been at the highest stage all my life,’ I think it was that.”

The “Get Hard” actor also praised Brady for going through with the roast, saying his participation was “necessary and of value” for “comedy and our climate of sensitivity.”
Brady’s reps did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment about Hart’s remarks.
During the special, both Hart and fellow comedian Nikki Glaser blasted Brady about his past relationships with the mothers of his three children.
“Tom, you’re the best to ever play for too long, you retired then came back then retired, I get it,” Glaser, 39, said. “It’s hard to walk away from something that isn’t your pregnant girlfriend.”

Brady and Moynahan, 53, had broken up before they knew she was pregnant with Jack.
By the time she publicly revealed she was expecting, Brady was already in a relationship with Bündchen, whom he was married to for 13 years before they divorced in fall 2022.
Hart, meanwhile, held nothing back while speaking about the Brazilian model and her jiu-jitsu trainer boyfriend, Joaquim Valente.
