Kompany warns Bayern players of Celtic´s winning mentality
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has said that his side should be wary of Celtic’s winning mentality as they meet in the Champions League play-off tie in Glasgow on Wednesday.
The Bundesliga outfit, despite leading the league standings in Germany, finished 12th in the league phase of the Champions League and will need to win the two-legged play-off against Celtic to reach the last 16.
Ahead of the first leg, Kompany said Celtic’s domestic dominance meant that they would not be pushovers for the German giants.
“We play against a team that is used to winning, to always go forward,” Kompany said, on the eve of their meeting with the Scottish Premiership leaders.
“The five players they deploy up front are used to scoring.”
Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda have scored three goals each for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the Champions League this season.
Meanwhile, their winger Nicolas Kuhn has created 10 chances following a carry (travelling five-plus metres with the ball) in the Champions League this season – the most by a player in the league phase.
