Kyle McCord waived: Eagles reportedly cut rookie quarterback
The Philadelphia Eagles are waiving rookie quarterback Kyle McCord, according to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
McCord was the Birdsâ seventh pick (a sixth-round selection at No. 181 overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Mount Laurel, New Jersey native was drafted to realistically compete with Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the emergency third quarterback role.
As it turns out, neither play won that job. The Eagles waived DTR on Sunday and now McCord is gone in the aftermath of the team trading for Sam Howell to fill the QB3 role (once an injured Tanner McKee is healthy enough to be QB2 behind Jalen Hurts).
Though McCord occasionally showed some upside, his downs were more frequent than his ups. By the conclusion of the Eaglesâ third and final preseason game, it was apparent that he couldnât be trusted to play meaningful snaps in 2025. Heâs just not ready for that yet, if heâll ever be.
The Eagles could have interest in signing McCord to their practice squad. The question is if heâll pass through waivers unclaimed. The feeling here is that teams wonât be rushing to clear a roster spot for him ⌠but weâll see.
