Lakers LeBron James throws shade at Kentucky legend Anthony Davis following crushing series loss

The Lakers’ season came to an end after falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. Despite entering the series as the favorite, it was clear which team was the better one. One could argue that JJ Redick’s decision to play his starters the entire second half in Game 4 ultimately cost the Lakers, as they wore down when it mattered most.

During LeBron James’ post-game press conference, the first question he faced was about retirement, given that he is now 40 years old. While he couldn’t provide a definitive answer, he did mention that he would be having discussions about his future during the offseason.

ā€œI don’t know. I don’t have the answer to that,” James said. “It’s something I’ll sit down with my family, my wife, and my support group and kind of just talk through it and see what happens.ā€

James was then asked about the Lakers’ issues at center following the loss. Jaxson Hayes had a virtually nonexistent impact in the series, especially in Game 5, when he didn’t even log a single minute. James threw a playful jab at his former teammate, Anthony Davis, in response.

ā€œNo comment … AD said what he needed, and then he was gone the following week,ā€ James said, referencing earlier in the season when Davis had expressed the need for a center so he could shift to the power forward position.

ā€œI think we need another big,” Davis told ESPN’s Shams Charania. “I feel like I’ve always been at my best when I’ve been the 4, having a big out there.ā€

A week later, Davis was involved in one of the wildest trades in NBA history, with Luka Dončić heading to Los Angeles in exchange for Davis and others. James’ cryptic response may have been humorous, but it certainly felt like a subtle shot at his former teammate.
