Lanisek wins Four Hills at Garmisch with Wellinger in overall lead

Four Hills highlights: Wellinger proves a popular winner at Oberstdorf

Anze Lanisek became the third Slovenian to win at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Four Hills Tournament.

Having topped yesterday’s qualifying, the 27-year-old started the year in perfect fashion with a win in the second stage of the hallowed event.

Lanisek’s second-round jump of 137 metres, into a stiffer headwind than his rivals, earned a bumper 151.2 points to give him a winning total of 295.8.

The Slovenian ski jumper claimed a sixth individual World Cup win, with all six coming on large hills.

Second in Oberstdorf, Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi was runner-up again here with 292.6 and Oberstdorf winner Andreas Wellinger finished third.

This was Wellinger’s sixth podium finish in a row and remains the Four Hills leader at the halfway stage with a total of 600.7 points across the two events, placing him just ahead of Kobayashi on 598.9.

Austrian Stefan Kraft is the overall World Cup leader and came sixth, while his compatriots Manuel Fettner and Jan Hoerl finished fourth and fifth respectively.

The tournament now moves to Austria with qualification in Innsbruck taking place on Tuesday.
