Latto Issues $10K “Brokey” Challenge To “Apologize” For Shading Hard Workers

Latto feels the best way to handle calling someone broke is to give them money.

After some fans felt personally attacked by the lyrics of her viral hit, “Brokey,” the rapper decided to issue a challenge to offset the backlash.

“I hate that y’all think I was calling hard workers brokeys,” she tweeted on Sunday (Sept. 15). “So I got $10k for whoever make the best video at they job to brokey & I’ll fly u out to be in the music video…no mo waiting til ur bday to go outta town. Tag me & hashtag #Brokey, so I can see them all.”

One felt she was doubling down on calling her fans broke as they responded, “‘no mo waiting til ur bday to go outta town’ is so back handed.” To which Latto laughed, commenting, “Just a jokey.”

Another teased, “If they fire me, can we break up the $10k bi weekly til I find me another job?” Elsewhere, someone joked, “This gon get people fired and then they’ll be #brokey fr. But for $10K I might have to do a lil sumn on that lunch break okayyyy.”

Some have already began taking the challenge semi-seriously and even Queen Naija praised Latto for her initiative. “Now this is dope,” the songstress tweeted.

There’s currently no deadline to submit a video for Latto’s “Brokey” challenge.

This isn’t the first time Latto has had to address lyrics and the commentary that followed. On “Settle Down,” the 25-year-old rapped, “Lay a ho down and lay up with a savage,” and many assumed that she was revealing her secret boyfriend as 21 Savage.

Yet, Latto quickly clarified in a conversation with Ebro Darden, “The internet don’t know a goddamn thing, let’s start there. I like being private. It ain’t really nobody’s business. Listen to the music and you’ll know what you need to know.” Of her relationship, she previously told Cosmo, “My privacy is more important [than seeing him in the crowd]. I can’t have people putting two and two together.”
