Lazio announce Tudor as new manager following Sarri resignation
Igor Tudor has been named Lazio manager following Maurizio Sarri’s resignation, the club have confirmed.
Assistant coach Giovanni Martusciello stepped into the vacant hot seat to oversee Saturday’s 3-2 win against Frosinone.
Tudor will take charge of Lazio’s next league match against Juventus – where he played as a defender between 1998 and 2007 – at home on Saturday, March 30, following the international break.
He also has the task of facing his old side in a two-legged Italian Cup semi-final next month, as Lazio look to bring the trophy they won in 2019 back to the Stadio Olimpico.
After Saturday’s victory, a four-point gap currently separates Lazio and sixth-place Atalanta who occupy the final European spot.
Last season, Tudor led Marseille to a third-place finish in Ligue 1 where his side were 22 points behind champions Paris-Saint-Germain, but secured a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot.
Before his time at Marseille, the 45-year-old had a spell at Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig, as well as posts at Udinese and Hellas Verona in Serie A.
Tudor has plenty of experience in Italian football, as that is where he plied his trade as a player before turning to management.
During a nine-year spell, he made over 100 appearances for Juventus while also representing Croatia 55 times from 1997 to 2006.
