League One clash between Stevenage and Cambridge abandoned due to floodlight failure
The League One clash between Stevenage and Cambridge has been abandoned after a faulty floodlight despite fans being in the ground.
Stevenage were set to host Cambridge in a League One clash, but just before kick-off, the lights went out inside the stadium.

It came after a floodlight failed to turn on with fans literally left in the dark at the Lamex Stadium.
After waiting for more than 30 minutes in near-total darkness, the decision was made to call off the game.
A statement from Stevenage read: “Unfortunately, tonight’s game has been cancelled due to circumstances outside of our control.
“If you’re inside the stadium, please exit carefully due to congestion & lack of lighting outside. More details to follow.”

A power cut in the local area of Stevenage took out the floodlight and was unable to come back on.
But the power outage affected not just the floodlights but the turnstiles too.
Cambridge posted on X that fans were left outside and could not get in due to turnstiles failing to work.
They might consider themselves lucky, though, that they could not get in with the match never going ahead.

The U’s posted: “We are told that the turnstiles aren’t open due to the power failure here in Stevenage.
“If you are outside the ground please try and remain patient.”
And while Stevenage stated that the power outage was outside of their control, fans were furious with the club.
One fan wrote on social media: “Absolutely embarrassing and very poor and lots of money spent already by many.

“I feel for the away fans and luckily a short journey – not good enough!”
Another added: “Always someone else’s fault. Any decent club would have backup power.
“Compensation to all those travelling fans, fine by the football league and points given to Cambridge.”
A third wrote: “Disgraceful.”

Stevenage have announced that any tickets bought for the match will remain valid for the rearranged fixtures, whenever that might be.
But it remains to be seen what League One officials will do or if they will reschedule the match.
