Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles players have encountered trouble finding their footing on the Corinthians Arena field for their regular season opening matchup in São Paulo, Brazil, with slips routinely occurring during the game.

Examples included Eagles running back Saquon Barkley slipping on his first carry for a loss of five yards and Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks losing his footing on a potential long gain.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and others have chimed in on the matter, which quickly became one of the matchup’s preeminent talking points.

LeBron James @KingJamesMan this field sucks!!! 🤦🏾‍♂️ GB vs PHI

JJ Watt @JJWattSoccer fields are made for speed and agility. Smaller bodies gliding across the surface with minimal contact.

They are not properly conditioned to have the size & strength of NFL players cutting, pushing and driving all game on them.

This is common at international games. https://t.co/6NmjrwFty2

Josh Hart @joshhartYea NFL don’t care with this field

Ryan Jensen @sinjen66I see the NFL still hasn’t figured out how to get a field ready for a game overseas. Ridiculous

Cam Sample @cameron_sampleThis field is terrible 😂

Dan George @CaptScrubNo one in the NFL checked the field conditions at Corinthians Arena? This turf is impacting every other play. Not a good look for a prime-time regular season game. #PackersvsEagles

Braxton Wheeler @Braxxx26If you’re going to make players fly all the way to Brazil to play a football game, the field conditions have to be better than this.

All it takes is one bad slip, it’s dangerous.

Charles Robinson @CharlesRobinsonThis field seems a little dangerous. Guys on both sides of the ball are slipping almost every single play.

Gary Sheffield Jr. @GarysheffieldJrThe NFL should be embarrassed to have agreed to play football in Brazil when these are the field conditions.

These guys are running routes where crops should be growing

mike freeman @mikefreemanNFLThe field conditions are seriously a disgrace. Dangerous. Really terrible job by the NFL.

Frank Schwab @YahooSchwabThese playing field conditions are not a good look for the NFL. https://t.co/BzGshClFCQ

System Sports @systemsports1These are the worst field conditions I’ve ever seen. Pretty disappointing from the NFL

🧀 Head (0-0) @RodgersisagoatMan these field conditions are EMBARRASSING.

How the hell do you allow this? @nfl

Bryant McFadden @BMac_SportsTalkThe field conditions are horrible. Changing your cleats won’t help. #NFL

Brandon Loree @BrandoniswriteThe last time NFL field conditions were this bad the Philadelphia Eagles lost a Super Bowl.

Natalie Sparbeck @NatSparbeckTHESE FIELD CONDITIONS ARE ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS.

UNNACEPTABLE, #NFL.

If this were the @Lions right now I’d be absolutely sick.

There was plenty of action otherwise in this game, as the two teams notably combined for 36 points in the first half. Barkley scored two touchdowns, and Packers wideout Jayden Reed added two as well.

But the slipping and sliding clearly caught many fans’ attention as the Packers and Eagles kicked off their seasons.
