Lee Carsley expected to leave England Under-21s role after being poached by Republic of Ireland for second time
Lee Carsley is the main contender to be named the new Republic of Ireland manager.
The FAI are looking for a new boss after taking the decision not to offer Stephen Kenny a new contract in November following their failed attempt to qualify for Euro 2024.

Ireland finished fourth out if five teams in qualifying Group A, picking up just six points in a group that featured France, Netherlands, Greece and Gibraltar.
Neil Lennon, Roy Keane and Chris Hughton have also been linked with the role.
Carsley is currently working as England Under-21 boss where he led the Young Lions to glory in the European Under-21 Championship last year.
However, according to multiple reports, it seems that Carsley could be set to get his chance at the highest level in international football, with a meeting scheduled for next week to finalise a decision.

It’s hoped that an appointment will be finalised before the February 8 Nations League draw in Paris.Â
Despite being born in Birmingham, Carsley represented the Republic of Ireland as a player, winning 40 caps along the way.
Starting his career with Derby County, the midfielder enjoyed a career that included Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City and Birmingham City.
However he’s best known for his six-year stay with Everton where he made 199 appearances for the Toffees.
