Legendary DJ Mister Cee Passes Away, Aged 57

Hot97 confirms that legendary DJ Mister Cee, official DJ for Big Daddy Kane and associate executive producer for Biggie Smallsâ debut record, has passed away at age 57.The legendary DJ, a Brooklyn native born as Calvin LeBrun, enjoyed an iconic career as one of NYCâs most prominent DJs. Hot97, where Mister Cee worked for 21 years, revealed that his family confirmed the news of his passing.
âAs a family at Hot97 and WBLS, weâre deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Mister Cee. He wasnât just a DJ; he was a pillar of our stations, bringing joy to countless listeners with his legendary Throwback at Noon and Friday Night Live sets,â wrote Hot97.

Widely known as The Finisher, Mister Cee became known as the official DJ for Big Daddy Kane, having formed a friendship in high school. He was the DJ behind Kaneâs 1988 debut, Long Live the Kane.Cee also played a significant role in building the success of The Notorious B.I.G. ahead of his signing to Diddyâs Bad Boy Records. He served as associate executive producer for his 1994 debut, Ready To Die.
During his tenure at Hot97, Mister Cee hosted Throwback at Noon, among the most listened to programs on New York City radio at the time. He had a part in launching the careers of many major artists, including Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Alicia Keys.
After his time at Hot97, he continued his career in radio, holding the 12-1PM slot at 94.7, The Block, on Monday through Friday. He was also a fan favorite DJ on SiriusXMâs Rock The Bells radio. In addition to continuing his work in radio, Cee was still regularly uploading his radio mixes to his SoundCloud account.
