Leny Yoro is on the verge of becoming a Manchester United player, with reports indicating he will sign a five-year deal with the Premier League giants.

Previously, Yoro was rumored to be eyeing a move to La Ligaā€™s Real Madrid, the reigning Champions League winners. However, it was revealed earlier on Wednesday that he had agreed to travel to Manchester for a medical examination. Lille accepted Unitedā€™s offer last week, paving the way for the transfer.

United secure personal terms with Yoro
The 18-year-old has reportedly agreed to personal terms after completing the first stage of his medical, according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal is now expected to be finalized with only a few more tests remaining before an official announcement.

This signing marks a significant achievement for United, coming just days after the club confirmed the acquisition of Bolognaā€™s Joshua Zirkzee. Zirkzee, a Netherlands international, will provide competition up front for Rasmus Hojlund.

Potential defensive reinforcements at Old Trafford
Yoro may not be the sole defensive addition to Old Trafford this summer. While United might need to offload some players to fund another transfer, Jarrad Branthwaite remains a target, with two bids already rejected for the England international. Additionally, Bayern Munichā€™s Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly of interest.

Real Madrid had initially shown interest in Yoro earlier in the transfer window but may now need to reassess their strategy. Relevo reports that the Spanish and European champions have no backup plan for the France Under-21 international and do not intend to pursue another center-back at this time.

Madrid faced significant challenges in defense last season, with David Alaba and Eder Militao both suffering ACL injuries that sidelined them for extended periods. Veteran captain Nacho Fernandez has since moved to the Saudi Pro League, adding to the clubā€™s defensive concerns.

Despite these setbacks, Antonio Rudiger emerged as one of Madridā€™s standout performers in the 2023/24 season. Additionally, Aurelien Tchouameni demonstrated his versatility by stepping into the defensive line when needed.
