Lessons on Creativity from Snoop Dogg, Lil Yachty, and Gucci Mane
When Snoop, Yachty, and Gucci sat down with Latto, Tierra Whack, and Jon Batiste for Musicians on Musicians interviews, sparks flew ā and they all shared wisdom about life and artistry
āOne of my secrets,ā Snoop Dogg tells Latto in their recent Musicians on Musicians conversation, āis that I remain the biggest kid in the room at all times.ā The new episode of Rolling Stone Music Now includes highlights of that interview (moderated by Rolling Stone staff writer Andre Gee) along with the two interviews from our first-ever live Musicians on Musicians event: Lil Yachtyās conversation with Tierra Whack (moderated by Rolling Stoneās supervising producer of news video, Delisa Shannon), and a meeting of the minds between Jon Batiste and Gucci Mane.
The episode includes the massively viral moment when Yachty offers his no-holds-barred opinion of the state of hip-hop: āThat shit sucksā¦ The place that hip hop is in right now is a terrible place,ā along with Yachtyās discussion of how Pink Floydās Dark Side of the Moon changed his entire conception of musicās possibility. Elsewhere, Batiste and Gucci find a surprising amount of common ground, fervently disagreeing with the idea that great art requires hardship. āDo I want to go through those times to please my fans? Hell no,ā Gucci says.
Adds Batiste, āI think hard times inspire you to make something that you wouldnāt make if you werenāt under the pressure of that. But I also think you can make great stuff and be super happy in your life. And I think thatās a myth that I donāt really buy into. I think we have to stop the myth of the tortured artist having to be so under it.ā
