Liam Rosenior confirmed as new boss of Ligue 1 side Strasbourg – replacing Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira

Strasbourg have confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior as their new manager.

The former Hull City boss has replaced Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, after the Ligue 1 side relieved him of his duties last week.

Rosenior has made a surprise move to France to continue his managerial careerCredit: RC StrasbourgThe 40-year-old was sacked by Hull in May after narrowly missing out on the Championship play-offs last term, but will now manage in the top division of French football.

Strasbourg are owned by Chelsea chairman and owner Todd Boehly’s BlueCo.

“I am happy to join Racing, a historic French club, with supporters renowned for their passion and loyalty,” Rosenior told the club website.

Strasbourg president Marc Keller said: “We are pleased to welcome Liam, a young coach recognised for his ability to make his teams play well and to help his players progress.

Vieira oversaw a disappointing campaign with the Ligue 1 side last term in his first job since being sacked by Crystal Palace, with the club finishing 13th in the league.

Meanwhile, his eplacement, Rosenior, was unexpectedly dismissed by Hull at the end of last season.

The Tigers missed out on the Championship play-offs following a shock 1-0 defeat to relegation candidates Plymouth on the final day.

They ended the campaign in seventh place – three points off the final play-off spot.

That was their highest finish since they finished 18th in the Premier League in 2017.

talkSPORT reported he turned down Plymouth’s offer to become their manager just days after being sacked by Hull.

The position instead went to his ex-Derby colleague Wayne Rooney.

Rosenior had been nominated for Championship manager of the season, but missed out to Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna.
