Lily Gladstone Melded Throwback Glam and Indigenous Elements for Her Stellar Look at the Oscars 2024

Best-actress nominee Lily Gladstone merged her Native American heritage with familiar red-carpet names like Gucci and Bulgari for her looks at both the Oscars 2024 ceremony and Vanity Fairā€™s Oscar Party. Gladstone, whose nomination for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorseseā€™s Killers of the Flower Moon makes her the first nominee of Siksikaitsitapi and Nimiipuu heritage in the categoryā€”has worked with stylist Jason Rembert to integrate Indigenous designers in her red-carpet appearances throughout awards season.

Gladstone followed a royal blue gown for the Oscar ceremony with a beaded black number for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Gucci collaborated with Joe and Sunshine Big Mountain of Ironhorse Quillwork for both dresses. The Ironhorse Quillwork teamā€™s intricate work on Gladstoneā€™s cape and earrings was amplified by Bulgari sparkles.

As Gladstone told Vanity Fair in an interview for this yearā€™s Hollywood issue: ā€œThe high fashion is fun because it proves the point that Native design belongs with luxury. Itā€™s so cool when you have a garment, whether it be Indigenous design or couture. When the pairing with the right set of earrings happensā€”like, Native womenā€™s earring game is strong.ā€

The Bulgari pieces (which she wore throughout the night) reflected the color saturation in the actorā€™s gown.

ā€œOne thing that I wanted to utilize were colors that were important to her,ā€ Joe Big Mountain told Vogue, speaking of the blue Gucci gown. ā€œThe blues, greens, and reds were significant to her personally, and I wanted to have those close to her heart.ā€

Gladstoneā€™s necklace featured diamonds, amethysts, turquoise, sapphires, and one behemoth 28-and-change-carat tanzanite at the center of the plume. Her high-jewelry ring featured a smattering of diamonds and sapphires embracing a whopping nine-carat sapphire in its own vivid deep blue. And, because itā€™s Hollywood on Oscar night, the look came together with a bracelet set with more than 45 carats of diamonds.
