If you’re like me—as in, consistently stressed and therefore prone to tension headaches, migraines, and tech neck—I’m begging you to get yourself a LittleMum Trigger-Point Massager. Specifically, the one that looks like a lobster.

As for why you should trust my recommendation of such a strange-looking product? Because if I’m an expert in anything, it’s chronic pain—especially the kind that starts in the back then ambushes the head, neck, and shoulders. After trying Botox, lidocaine injections, acupuncture, and even getting a breast reduction, the LittleMum Trapezius Trigger-Point Massager is still the only thing that provides an immediate relief for my aches and pains.

You won’t fully believe me until you try it, but for now I’ll tell you how my “lobster pillow” love story began. Over the summer, at the height of my “migraine loop,” I started to get desperate: I googled everything from “neck shoulder head pain relief” to “trapezius tension help” and finally stumbled upon the Amazon page for the Trapezius Trigger-Point Massager.

At first I was intrigued because it looked so funny. But then I started reading the reviews, all of which pretty much said the same thing: Yes, it resembles a lobster, and yes—it really does help relieve back, neck, head, and shoulder pain—and fast.

To say I cosign all of those reviews and then some is an understatement: This lobster is so life-changing I want to gift it to everyone I know and love for the holidays. But for now, I’ll settle for “gifting” the knowledge of it to you.

At this point you’re probably wondering how or why this bizarre object could help temper pain. Well, adopting my lobster finally made me realize that most of my headaches were actually the result of tension in my shoulders and neck.

Obviously, this is uniquely problematic for someone who spends so much time hunched over, typing on a laptop (much as I’m doing now), but you definitely don’t have to be a writer to benefit from its use. In fact, I’ve noticed that my tech neck is actually worse when I’m using my phone.

To use the lobster trigger-point massager, simply place it on the floor, a couch, or your bed, and lie down on top of it, aligning it with your neck and shoulders. It might take some adjusting here and there, and a little bit of getting used to, but once you find your positioning, the pressure point respite is indisputable.

I personally like to lie on it for about 20 minutes at a time, usually in the bed, but how you use it is totally up to you. Wiggle around if you please, stretch your arms out to your sides, and try some shoulder rolls: After a few minutes of use, trust me when I say, you’ll be asking yourself why you didn’t get it sooner. On a recent trip I was devastated when I couldn’t fit my lobster in my luggage.

Fortunately I found a travel-friendly replacement in the form of LittleMum’s Trigger-Point Massager Dolly, which I also strongly recommend.

While I don’t know if I’ll ever be 100% migraine- and headache-free, knowing that I have my lobster has made a world of a difference. Now feeling my shoulders tense or throbbing pain in the base of my skull doesn’t send me into an hours-long panicked despair.

Instead I simply plop myself atop the lobster, stretch out my arms, and let the trigger-point massager do its thing. Sometimes just knowing I have a foolproof form of relief is enough.
