Liverpool goalkeeper departs Anfield

Premier League leaders Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

Lisandro Martinez put the visitors into a shock lead after the break on Merseyside, but quick goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah turned the game on its head and looked to have earned Arne Slot’s side all three points.

That was until Amad Diallo drew the Red Devils level late on, earning Ruben Amorim’s team an important point that moves them up to 13th place in the top flight table.

The result also extends Liverpool’s advantage at the top of the standings to six points, while they also boast a game-in-hand over their rivals.

Off the pitch, though, one of Liverpool’s goalkeepers has left the club.

The Merseyside outfit confirmed on Monday that goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga had agreed to join Brazilian side Fluminense on a permanent deal.

Pitaliga, 22, joined the Reds from Fluminense in 2020 and has since spent time on loan at several clubs including Macclesfield and Scottish side Livingston.

Pitaluga kept nine clean sheets in 37 matches for Liverpool’s Under-21s, conceding 63 goals.

Liverpool have already strengthened their goalkeeping options for next season with the signing of Giorgio Mamardashvili from Spanish side Valencia, with the ‘keeper set to arrive this summer.
