Liverpool to open contract talks with key player

Liverpool go into the international break joint top of the Premier League table after their 3-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.Ā

Arne Slotā€™s side have won all three of their games so far and currently sit second in the table, behind reigning champions Manchester City on goals scored.

After the break the Reds welcome Nottingham Forest to Anfield and Slot will fancy his sideā€™s chances of recording a fourth consecutive victory.

In the meantime, though, it appears that the Merseyside club are set to begin talks with one of their most important players about a new contract.

As per Football Insider, Liverpool are set to begin talks with Mohamed Salah about a new deal.

The Egyptianā€™s current contract is set to expire next summer and he claimed in the wake of their win over Manchester United that it had been his ā€˜final gameā€™ at Old Trafford as he was in the ā€˜final yearā€™ of his time with the club.

Salah has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract

Now, though, the club are set to begin talks with the player about an extension to his current deal.

The report claims that Liverpool were waiting until new manager Slot had settled into his role before opening negotiations with Salah and his representatives.

The 32-year-old joined the Reds from Serie A side Roma seven years ago and has since scored an incredible 214 goals in 352 matches for the club.

He has also provided 92 assists, including two for teammate Luis Diaz during the win over the Red Devils last time out.

The Egypt international was the subject of a huge Ā£150 million offer from a Saudi club last summer, and he is likely to attract further interest from Pro League clubs if he does reach the end of his Liverpool contract.
