LPGA FM Championship Suspended: After a Wave of Illness, $3.8M Event Faces Brutal Jab From Mother Nature

Trouble, trouble, and a little more trouble, that’s how many would describe the 2024 FM Championship. After a bunch of withdrawals, including LPGA Superstars Sei Young Kim, Olivia Cowan, and Jenny Shin due to illness, the tournament is facing the ultimate nightmare, inclement weather. And to make matters worse, the bad weather is causing delays and we all know how much golf fans hate that.

The LPGA Tour recently took to their X account to announce that the play has been halted in the final round of the FM Championship at 3:40 p.m. due to unfavorable weather conditions. The final round of the FM Championship is facing wet conditions, with a high probability of rain (80%) and precipitation of 5-10mm since morning. And it’s safe to say that it’s raining cats and dogs at the TPC Boston in Norton. The caption read, “Final-round play at the #FMChampionship was suspended at 3:40 p.m. due to inclement weather. Update to follow.”

The rain is making it a super humid day out there, with a whopping 94% relative humidity! Temperatures are all over the place, swinging from a comfy 69.8°F to a balmy 80.6°F. And to top it off, a gentle breeze is blowing in from the Southwest at a moderate 10-12 km/hr. It’s definitely a unique day for the FM Championship finale. The players are gonna have to deal with the sticky humidity and temperature rollercoaster, and it will surely be exciting to see who will emerge victorious.

Golfers are surely dealing with a lot at the 2024 FM Championship, but is that stopping them from giving a fabulous performance? No, not at all! The leaderboard is heating up, with South Korea’s Haeran Ryu and Jin Young Ko tied for first place at 15 under par. Ryu had an impressive 8 under today, with a total score of 209, while Ko had a steady 4 under which brought her total to 205.

China’s Ruixin Liu and the United States Allisen Corpuz are hot on their heels. Both the golfers are tied for third place with a score of 14 under par. They had rounds of -8 and -6 today, respectively, bringing their total scores to 210 and 208, respectively. The competition is not short of cutthroat but the golfers are showing great restraint and determination on the greens.
