Madden 25 2024 release window, platforms, and more

Fans of American football are no doubt looking forward to the next entry in EA’s Madden NFL series, presumably titled Madden NFL 25. As such, we’ve compiled everything we know about this year’s game, including when it’ll launch and which platforms it will be available for.

At the time of writing, EA hasn’t actually formally announced a new Madden NFL game for 2024. However, it’s likewise not said anything about not releasing one this year. Plus, considering it’s been an annual staple of the company’s sports games since 1990, it’s reasonable to assume a 2024 entry is in the works.

When will Madden 25 release? Image via EA
Although no official release date has been shared yet, the series’ track record suggests Madden NFL 25 will launch in August. Previous Madden games have typically released within that month so, unless EA says otherwise, there’s no reason not to expect Madden NFL 25 to follow suit.

There is one factor that may impact Madden NFL 25‘s expected launch window, and that’s the other football game EA should be launching this summer: EA Sports College Football 25. At the time of writing, EA hasn’t shared a release date for that game either, but it’s suspected to be coming out in July. EA may not want two football related titles launching so close to one another, so don’t be surprised if either game winds up being pushed back to let the other breathe. We will update this article once a more definitive launch date for Madden NFL 25 is shared.

What platforms will Madden 25 release for? At the very least, Madden NFL 25 will be made available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Aside from being the most current platforms, this has been the case for the last several games ever since 2020’s Madden NFL 21. The real question is whether Madden NFL 25 will see a release on the last-gen consoles: the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

While some of the newer EA Sports titles, like EA Sports UFC 5 and the 2023 PGA Tour game, have been exclusive to current-gen platforms, others like EA Sports FC 24 and F1 24 haven’t been as willing to ditch players who’ve yet to upgrade to a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. As such, there’s no telling which direction Madden NFL 25 will take, but we’ll update this article once EA provides a statement on the matter.

Is it actually called Madden NFL 25? Considering how the games have been numbered since 1991 in order to reflect the year they came out, it seems obvious that 2024’s entry will be named Madden NFL 25. However, long-time fans will know it’s not as simple as you may think. That’s because EA already named the 2013 entry Madden NFL 25, since it was celebrating the series’ 25th anniversary. As such, EA may very well give this year’s entry a different name, though we can’t imagine it’ll be anything drastically different. Our best guess is it just being Madden NFL 2025 or something.

Image via EA/MobyGames Admittedly, the 2013 Madden NFL 25 isn’t exactly the easiest to buy, what with it being over a decade old, so there’s little chance of someone mistaking it for the newest game and purchasing it accidentally. We had a quick Google search and the only copies we can find are secondhand and for very little money, which should clue anyone in that it isn’t the latest entry. It’s also no longer available digitally on either the PlayStation or Xbox stores, so maybe EA won’t bother giving this year’s game a slightly different name to help distinguish the two.

Will Madden NFL 25 have cross-play? Cross-play in Madden NFL 25 is a safe bet since it was included in last year’s game. However, Madden NFL 24 only had cross-play on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. So, even if Madden NFL 25 launches on last-gen platforms, you probably shouldn’t expect to see cross-play on either the PS4 or Xbox One versions.

Who is making Madden NFL 25? EA Orlando, formerly known as EA Tiburon, has worked on the Madden NFL games since 1995, so there’s little reason to assume any other studio is in charge of Madden NFL 25. Although EA Orlando is also working on EA Sports College Football 25, so EA may have handed the next Madden game to someone else, unless EA Orlando is juggling both projects at once. We’ll update this article once more concrete information has been shared.
