Man City and Arsenal aware of target’s lower price tag

Manchester City will be hoping to take a big step towards retaining their Premier League title when they face Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday evening.

The Citizens arrive on the south coast just a day after title rivals Liverpool were defeated 2-0 by rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby, meaning that victory for City will lift them into second place, just a single point behind leaders Arsenal.

The Gunners have payed one more game than City, which suggests that the reigning champions remain favourites to lift the trophy next month.

In the meantime, both City and Arsenal have discovered that one of their transfer targets could be available at a lower price than originally thought.

According to 90min, Newcastle United could list to offers in excess of £80 million for midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, despite the Brazilian having a release clause in his contract.

Guimaraes could be in line for a big move this summer

The report claims that Guimaraes, who has attracted attention from both the Gunners and the Citizens, has a £100 million release clause in his current deal.

It is also claimed, though, that there is a verbal agreement in place between the player and his current club to listen to offers in excess of £80 million from clubs competing in the Champions League.

Both City and Arsenal are set to be in Europe’s top club competition next term, and they could therefore be at an advantage in the race to sign Guimaraes, 26.

The central midfielder joined the Magpies from French club Lyon in 2022, and has played a key role for the club ever since.

In total he has made 102 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing the same number of assists.

As well as Arsenal and Man City, French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in the Brazil international.
