Man United and Chelsea face competition to sign wonderkid

Ruben Amorim will take charge of his first training session at Manchester United on Monday.

The Portuguese was appointed as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor earlier this month, but remained in his role at Sporting CP until the international break.

Amorim’s first match as United head coach will be against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon, but the Tractor Boys will be in confident mood after defeating Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

Away from the on-field action, it appears that Manchester United are facing stiff competition in the race to sign one of their transfer targets.

As per CaughtOffside, Newcastle United are plotting a move for Man United and Chelsea target Geovany Quneda.

The winger forced his way into the first team at Sporting this season, under new United head coach Amorim.

Quenda has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs

It is also claimed that the 17-year-old has attracted interest from Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Juventus.

The teenager has played in all 18 of Sporting’s matches across all competitions so far this season, scoring twice and providing two assists.

Newcastle are said to have made it clear that they intend to step up their interest in the teenager in the near future, with the Magpies looking to bolster their squad with talented young players.

Quenda is contracted to the Portuguese champions until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but Sporting could face a battle to keep hold of the winger with several of Europe’s top teams circling.

The player’s current deal has a release clause of around £84 million included in it, which suggests he could be difficult to lure away from Lisbon if Sporting are unwilling to negotiate.

Quenda  who primarily operates in the right flank – is a Portugal under-21 international.
