Man United exploring sensational move for Championship manager

Manchester United kept alive their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Europa League by beating Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

Youngster Kobbie Mainoo put the Red Devils ahead at Old Trafford, before Anthony Gordon drew the visitors level.

Alejandro Garnacho then put Erik ten Hag’s side back in front, and striker Rasmus Hojlund added a third late on.

Despite Lewis Hall pulling another one back for the Magpies, Man United held on to secure all three points.

The Red Devils remain eighth in the Premier League table but could leapfrog the Magpies on the final day of the season on Sunday.

Ten Hag continues to face an uncertain future at Old Trafford, with speculation rife that the Dutchman could be replaced this summer.

Now, Football Insider claim that the club are considering a shock move for Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna.

McKenna is regarded as one of the best young managers in England

The Northern Irishman has guided the Tractor Boys to successive promotions, taking them from League One to the Premier League next season.

His staggering achievements at Portman Road have alerted Premier League clubs, though, and the report claims that United could soon be in contact with Ipswich over a potential swoop.

McKenna, 38, spent time on the coaching staff at Old Trafford and was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s assistant manager before departing to East Anglia in December 2021.

It is claimed that those in charge of United, including Sir Alex Ferguson, regard McKenna very highly and he could therefore be considered if Ten Hag is dismissed.

The Ipswich boss is contracted to his current side until 2027, which means that United would have to pay the club compensation if they did move to lure him back to Manchester.
