Man United make decision on midfielder’s future

Manchester United return to Premier League action when they face struggling Sheffield United on Wednesday night. 

The Red Devils reached the FA Cup with victory over Coventry City at Wembley on Saturday, however they did surrender a 3-0 lead and ultimately required a penalty shoot-out to progress into the final.

United will face rivals Manchester City in the final, for a second successive season, and manager Erik ten Hag will be desperate to see his side avenge last term’s defeat.

The Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford has been the subject of significant speculation in recent weeks, but in the meantime it appears that one of his players will be leaving the club this summer.

According to Football Insider, United have decided not to sign loanee Sofyan Amrabat permanently this summer.

Amrabat isn’t expected to stay at Old Trafford beyond this summer

The Moroccan midfielder joined the Red Devils on loan from Italian side Fiorentina last summer in a deal that includes an option-to-buy clause, but the report claims that the Premier League side do not intend to activate it.

Amrabat, 27, has played just 23 times across all competitions so far this season, and has only started seven Premier League games.

The impressive form of youngster Kobbie Mainoo has undoubtedly hindered Amrabat’s chances of featuring regularly this term.

The central midfielder joined United six months after impressing at the World Cup in Qatar, as Morocco reached the semi-finals.

It is claimed that United paid a loan fee of around £8.5 million to land Amrabat last summer, and the Manchester club can make the move permanent this summer for a further £21.4 million.

Those in charge of the club have, however, decided that the loanee is not suited to Premier League football, and he will therefore return to Tuscany when his loan expires.
