Man united midfielder close to cut-price move away from club
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will hope to see his side improve in the Premier League next term.Â
The Dutchman has lifted both domestic cups since taking charge of United two years ago, but last season his side slumped to an eighth-placed finish in the top flight table.
The Red Devils were set to miss out on qualification for next season’s Champions League, but victory over rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final earned United a place in next term’s Europa League.
Ahead of the new season, Ten Hag will likely want to bolster his squad, but in the meantime it appears that one of his midfielders is set to depart Old Trafford permanently.
As per Fabrizio Romano, central midfielder Donny van de Beek is closing in on a move to Spanish side Girona.
Van de Beek is set to leave Manchester United permanently this summer
The proposed move will bring an end to the Dutchman’s nightmare spell in Manchester, four years after originally joining United from Eredivisie giants Ajax.
Van de Beek, 27, has failed to ever establish himself as a regular for the Red Devils and has played just 62 times for the club across all competitions since signing.
The Netherlands international has spent time on loan at both Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt over the past few seasons, but he now appears to be on the verge of a permanent Old Trafford exit.
Romano claims that United will receive less than £1 million for the player, although the deal could see Girona end up paying up to £4.5 million if certain performance-related add-ons are met.
Van de Beek’s current contract with United is set to expire next summer, so the Manchester outfit appear to be cashing in on the Dutchman this summer in order to avoid losing him for free.
