Man United star keen to commit future to club
England face Brazil in a friendly at Wembley on Saturday evening.Â
The game is the Three Lions’ penultimate fixture before Gareth Southgate announces his squad for Euro 2024 this summer, and will therefore be one of the last opportunities for players to impress.
Youngster Kobbie Mainoo could be in line for his full England debut, having been called up to the senior squad late on after initially being set to represent the Under-21s.
At club level, it appears that the Manchester United star has made a decision on his future.
As per Football Insider, the 18-year-old midfielder is ready to sign a new contract and commit his future to the Red Devils.
Mainoo is a product of United’s fruitful youth academy, and made his debut in a Carabao Cup win over Chalrton Athletic last season.
Mainoo could make his England debut against Brazil on Saturday
He has now made 23 appearances for his boyhood club across all competitions, and has been heavily praised for his recent performances.
It is claimed that United are already in talks with the teenager over an extension to his current deal, which was signed 12 months ago and is set to expire at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
A new deal would likely earn Mainoo a significant pay rise, to reflect his importance to Erik ten Hag’s side.
The report claims that both parties are ‘confident’ that an agreement will be reached.
Prior to his call up to the senior side, Mainoo had been handed his first involvement in the England Under-21 side, but he will instead be part of Southgate’s squad for the games against both Brazil and Belgium.
