Man Utd plotting move for £80m-rated Branthwaite
Branthwaite targeted by Man Utd
Manchester United are reportedly planning to make a move for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite – but the defender could cost £80 million.
The Sun claim the Red Devils are determined to land the 21-year-old in what the outlet says would be a “marquee signing”.
The Sun writes: “Manchester United hope to steal a march in the chase for Jarrad Branthwaite – as soon as Jason Wilcox arrives.
“United intend to make Wilcox their new transfer guru and are confident of brokering a compensation deal with Southampton, where he has been football director, within days.
“And they believe his previous close working relationship with Branthwaite’s agent David Reeves will put them in pole position for Everton’s highly-rated centre-back.
“United want to make the 21-year-old one of their marquee signings in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s rebuild.
“A fee of more than £80 million has been mentioned but United need to boost their backline.
“Branthwaite has been the shining light in a nightmare season for Everton and was named in England’s squad for last month’s Wembley friendlies with Brazil and Belgium.
“Recent reports also suggest United are now lining up a bid amid doubts over the futures of Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire.
“Both players are out of contract in 2025, with Varane a target for clubs in Saudi Arabia.”
Rashford to stay at United
Marcus Rashford will remain at Manchester United next season amid speculation linking the striker with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
The 26-year-old had been touted as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who will leave the Ligue 1 giants in the summer.
The Sun writes: Marcus Rashford’s future is at Old Trafford – after Paris Saint- Germain made it clear they have no interest in signing the struggling frontman.
“Sources have told SunSport that PSG believe the talk was only used to improve the terms of his contract offer.
“A source said: ‘PSG have never been interested in signing Marcus.
“’He might benefit from the noise around a possible transfer going away so he can concentrate on reigniting his United career.
“’And given his struggles on and off the pitch this season, they have given it no consideration at all. He will not be moving to PSG.'”
Newcastle make Gibbs-White a priority
Newcastle are looking at Nottingham Forest forward Morgan Gibbs-White as a potential replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, claims a report.
Guimaraes has been constantly linked with a move away from the North East and Eddie Howe’s side could look to Forest’s 24-year-old star to fill the void.
The Mirror writes: “Newcastle have made Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White one of their main summer transfer targets as they grapple with Profit and Sustainability Rules.
“There are fears to keep within the Premier League’s financial restrictions one of their stars – almost certainly the talismanic Bruno Guimaraes – could have to be sacrificed to enable manager Eddie Howe to strengthen in different areas.
“Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are admirers of the combative Brazilian who has a release clause of around £100 million.
“And at least that would give Howe the spending power to work his way down a short list of possible close season buys which includes Forest midfielder Gibbs-White.
“The England Under 21 player has been a revelation at the City Ground this season and the £50million-rated star has other admirers in the Premier League including Arsenal.”
