Man Utd squad’s ‘theory’ behind Casemiro struggles revealed

Manchester United’s first-team squad have sympathised with Casemiro’s struggles as they reflect the club’s general state, according to a report.

Casemiro signed for United from Real Madrid back in 2022 as one of Erik ten Hag’s first major signings, joining for a fee that could rise to as high as £70m.

Though the Brazil international was one of the Red Devils’ better performers in his debut season, his form notably declined during the 2023/24 campaign.

Casemiro’s struggles have continued into the new season and he was at fault for two of the three goals United conceded at home to Liverpool prior to the international break.

The Manchester Evening News claim the United dressing room stand with Casemiro in regard to his plight as he ‘didn’t sign up’ to simply compete for a UEFA Champions League place at this stage of his career.

During his successful spell at Madrid, Casemiro won a whopping five Champions Leagues as well as 13 other titles, while he has accumulated 75 caps with the Brazil national team.

Casemiro is expected to be replaced in Ten Hag’s preferred starting lineup by summer signing Manuel Ugarte, while he was substituted for 20-year-old debutant Toby Collyer at half-time of their recent loss to Liverpool.

The 32-year-old has been linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League and Turkiye, though remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2026 and reports suggest he is not interested in leaving just yet.

Casemiro has played 87 matches for United, scoring 12 goals in that time.
