Manchester United transfers, transfer news, table, fixtures, results and stats

Regarded as one of the most powerful sporting brands in the world, Manchester United are a truly massive football club. Nicknamed ‘The Red Devils’, United were founded as long ago as 1878 when they were originally called Newton Heath LYR FC. Hugely successful over the years, United have won more trophies than any other club in English football – including a record 20 First Division/Premier League titles.

Given their huge levels of success, it is not surprising the club boasts some instantly recognizable managers. The Red Devils achieved their greatest success under the leadership of both Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson. Since the latter’s departure in 2012, Manchester United have been through a succession of managers, none of whom has managed to dominate the Premier League in the manner to which the fans have been accustomed. In fairness, it has been a difficult task with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool all improving and competing at the top. United are currently managed by their former striker, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is hoping to return the club back to the very top – both domestically and in Europe.

A quick look at the silverware accumulated by the club over the years shows they have won 20 First Division/Premier League titles, 12 FA Cups, five League Cups and 21 Community Shields. A look at their European honours shows three European Cup/Champions League titles, a Europa League trophy, a European Super Cup and one European Cup Winners Cup.

Old Trafford, or the Theatre of Dreams as it is known by the fans, has seen its turf graced by a host of outstanding players over the years. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and more have created some memorable moments for the United fans to cherish.
