Manchester United’s injury woes: Yoro and Hojlund sidelined

Manchester United’s recent £52 million acquisition, defender Leny Yoro, has been ruled out for three months following an injury sustained in Saturday’s pre-season match against Arsenal. The club confirmed the news shortly before United’s 3-2 victory over Real Betis in San Diego.

During the first half of the 2-1 defeat at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Yoro had to leave the field due to his injury. He was later seen at United’s training facility at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), using crutches and wearing a protective boot, which raised concerns about the severity of his condition. Those concerns were justified, as the 18-year-old will now be unavailable until the end of October.

This means Yoro will miss nine Premier League matches, including high-profile games against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa. Additionally, he will be absent for the start of United’s Europa League and Carabao Cup campaigns. Although Yoro will undergo further tests upon returning to the UK to fully assess the injury, he will remain with the United squad for the rest of their US tour, which concludes with a match against Liverpool in Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday.

Hojlund faces six weeks out
Striker Rasmus Hojlund, who opened the scoring for United in the weekend’s game, will also be out of action due to a hamstring injury. This setback will keep him sidelined for six weeks, meaning he will not return until after the September international break. Consequently, Hojlund will miss the crucial Liverpool match at Old Trafford on September 1.

The injuries to both Yoro and Hojlund have prompted speculation about United’s transfer plans. The club may renew their interest in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite or Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt, given their earlier approaches for these players this summer. The news adds urgency to United’s efforts to strengthen their squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.
