College basketball’s postseason officially began Monday night with a pair of ASUN Tournament games that established matchups for Tuesday’s second round. It was the first taste of what’s guaranteed to be a compelling two-week stretch leading into the March 17 NCAA Tournament Selection Show on CBS.
No. 10 seed Jacksonville beat No. 9 seed Kennesaw State 92-86, advancing to take on No. 1 seed Eastern Kentucky. The top-seeded Colonels beat Jacksonville 75-59 on Jan. 25 in their only meeting of the regular season. No. 8 seed Queens beat No. 7 seed Florida Gulf Coast 69-63 in the other first-round game, advancing to play No. 2 seed Stetson. The Hatters split their regular-season series with the Royals, who are transitioning from Division II to Division I and are not eligible to make the NCAA Tournament
All four ASUN second-round games will be at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The Horizon League, Patriot League and Sun Belt tournaments will also be in action Tuesday as the madness of March begins to ramp up.Â
The Ohio Valley Conference will be the first to crown a champion on Saturday. The Missouri Valley, Big South and ASUN will be just one day behind them as their tournaments conclude Sunday.
As automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament are secured, we’ll be noting each of them here. Â
