Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea set to activate Osimhen’s Napoli release clause
Napoli will be without Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Victor Osimhen for the next month as both players will be representing their countries at the AFCON tournament.
English Premier League side, Chelsea FC, are set to activate the release clause included in the new contracts of the Super Eagles and Napoli, Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen enjoyed a stellar year with Napoli under Luciano Spaletti, winning the Scudetto with Die Partonepie, winning the Italian Player of the Year, CAF Player of the Year, and finishing eighth in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
The 25-year-old striker has been constantly linked with a move from the Diego Amanda Maradona Stadium, but instead, chose to put pen to paper with the Naples club.
The new deal signed by the Super Eagles striker runs through the summer of 2026 but includes a hefty release clause to scare teams away.
The release clause is about a hundred and thirty million euros, and as per reports from Calcio Napoli, Mauricio Pochetinno’s side are set to activate the clause to bring the Nigerian to Stamford Bridge.
Pochetinno has been a vocal supporter of the Napoli talisman, and with the Blues short of goals this term, the Argentine manager has turned his face to Osimhen to bring the goods back to Chelsea.
Several Chelsea legends, like Mikel Obi and Didier Drogba, have also been vocal in their admiration of the CAF Player of the Year award winner, admitting they’ll welcome him to the Stamford Bridge with open arms.
Victor Osimhen is currently on international duty with the Nigerian football team as he looks to make a mark on the AFCON tournament in the Ivory Coast.
