Meta Launches New Developer Hubs to Facilitate External Projects
Here’s one for the dev folk out there. Meta has updated its developer resources, which are now split into three categories, in order to provide more focused assistance and guidance for system builders.
Now, you’ll be able to access three developer centers:
Meta Horizon – For those building for Meta Quest and Meta Horizon OS.
Social technologies – Incorporating Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Whatsapp and Threads.
AI – Insights into Meta’s evolving AI platforms, and how external developers can utilize Meta’s AI tools.
As per Meta:
“Our goal with the new Meta for Developer marketing hub and revamped developer centers is to help developers build successfully for their future and grow their business globally with Meta by leveraging our industry-leading and open technologies, and a vast ecosystem of tools and tailored solutions.”
So, essentially, as Meta continues to develop its next-level platforms, each will now have its own focus, so that developers can better understand how they can access and utilize Meta’s systems.
Which, for general users, won’t be a big deal, but for developers is an important change. Meta’s VR and AR experiences are evolving, and it’s continuing to build its AI infrastructure, which it’s open sourcing as much as it can. As such, having a dedicated space that outlines each of these aspects will make it easier for developers to link into the right areas, and incorporate Meta’s tools into their projects.
Which is also key for Meta’s future dominance. The more Meta’s systems are used, the more critical Meta itself becomes, and as VR, in particular, comes more into frame, you’re going to see why enabling external developers to build on its foundations is key for its development.
Again, it’s a more technical update, but it’s an important step in Meta’s broader evolution.
