Mets DFA veteran bullpen pitcher to make room for Sean Manaea

The New York Mets are holding their breath for the final week of the regular season. After losing two straight entering Sunday, they are now just a half-game in front of the Cincinnati Reds for the final spot in the NL Wild Card.

Something is going to have to turn around. They have a record of 7-12 in September.

In the midst of a concerning end to the MLB regular season for the Mets, they parted ways with a veteran pitcher on Sunday.

Mets DFA Chris Devenski, reactivate Sean Manaea from paternity listOn Sunday, the New York Mets decided to designate right-handed pitcher Chris Devenski, SNY Mets announced on social media.. The 34-year-old showed production in the short time he had this season.

Through 13 appearances, Devenski had a 2.16 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP while striking out 14 in 16.2 innings.

The move was made to make room for left-handed starter Sean Manaea. He started in the Mets’ 3-2 loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday, giving up four hits and three earned runs in 3.0 innings.

Manaea has struggled this season since returning from a right oblique strain he suffered in Spring Training. He made his 2025 debut in July, and in 13 starts this season, the 33-year-old has a 2-4 record, 5.59 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts in 58 innings.
