MGM and Marriott to Launch First W Hotels Property on the Strip

Casino & hospitality giants MGM Resorts International and Marriott International have unveiled plans to bring the W Hotels brand to the Vegas Strip. To that end, one of MGM’s local properties will be converted to the brand, in line with the two companies’ existing partnership.

MHM Expands Its Collaboration with Marriott
The conversion should be completed before the end of 2024, according to MGM Resorts. The casino company added that this will continue W Hotels’ storied evolution, while also marking a significant new step in the long-term licensing agreement with Marriott.

First announced in 2023, the partnership with Marriott has so far been going from strength to strength, increasing MGM’s expectations. MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy officially launched in March 2024, providing an instant boost to bookings.

The partnership with Marriott Bonvoy provides the company’s members with unique opportunities at MGM’s properties. Some 200 million people can therefore visit MGM Resorts’ destinations and enjoy unique benefits.

At the same time, MGM Rewards members can match and receive member benefits at Marriott’s global portfolio of approximately 9,000 properties.

The new W Hotels will be located on the Mandalay Bay Campus. Additional plans for the property will be announced very soon, according to the two hospitality giants.

The addition of W Las Vegas will expand the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy to 12 destinations on the Las Vegas Strip. The partnership currently includes Bellagio, ARIA, The Cosmopolitan and Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, among others.

New Luxury Experience to Hit the Strip
Steve Zanella, MGM Resorts’ president of operations, commented on the matter, saying that the relationship between the two companies has so far exceeded all expectations. He added that the tie-up has demonstrated the power of Marriott’s brand portfolio and distribution channels.

W Las Vegas, Zanella added, will provide MGM guests with access to unparalleled experiences.

W Las Vegas, the latest hotel to come to life as part of our collaboration, will allow our guests to access a new luxury lifestyle experience recognized worldwide for its distinct personality, dynamic programming and elevated service culture.

In the meantime, Leeny Oberg, Marriott’s chief financial officer and executive vice president of development, said that her company is excited to continue its partnership with MGM and bring W Las Vegas to the Strip.

This agreement is a pivotal moment in our collaboration, which continues to expand hospitality and entertainment offerings for guests. As a luxury brand rooted in bold design and nightlife, W Hotels is well-positioned to elevate experiences for travelers in this destination.

Despite MGM’s strides, however, a J.P. Morgan analyst recently lowered the company’s projections for 2025.
