Michael Chandler fires back at hypocritical Arman Tsarukyan after he claimed he will wait another year for a title fight

Since Michael Chandler accepted a fight against Charles Oliveira instead of waiting even longer for the return of Conor McGregor, he has been clapping back at critics who criticized him for waiting for two years.

One of those critics was UFC lightweight number one contender, Arman Tsarukyan who previously labeled Michael Chandler as ‘dumb’ for thinking his long-awaited fight against Conor McGregor would actually happen.

Despite that, he now may find himself in a similar position to what ‘Iron’ Chandler was in, sitting on the sidelines waiting for his fight against Islam Makhachev to happen.

The Russian champion recently revealed that after sustaining a hand injury during his UFC 302 title defense against Dustin Poirier, he now requires surgery and won’t return to action until the first quarter of next year.

Tsarukyan has made it clear throughout this year that he doesn’t care who he fights for the title as long as he is fighting for undisputed gold.

However, the 27-year-old has recently admitted that he is willing to wait another year until he fights for the title and will not fight in between.

“I don’t care when this fight happens even if it’s in a year, I’ll keep working,” Tsarukyan told Red Corner MMA.

“Wait a second – @ArmanUFC – you said you’d wait another year? That would put you out for 17 months. You’d wait 17 months for a fight? Pot, meet kettle,” Chandler commented on X.

The 38-year-old is under the impression that with a win over ‘Do Bronx’ at UFC 309 in November, he will then be given a choice by the UFC of whether he wants to fight for the title or if he wants to fight the returning Irishman.

Despite the lightweight division arguably being the most stacked in the sport, there aren’t many contenders outside of Tsarukyan who are deserving of a title shot, and Chandler may actually find himself sneaking into that spot with a win over the Brazilian star.

With that, Chandler went on to claim that he will see Armen if the 27-year-old is able to avenge his loss against Makhachev.

“I’ll see Armen if he beats Islam,” Chandler responded to a fan who was backing Tsarukyan for chasing a title.
