Michigan running back Donovan Edwards makes Doak Walker watch list

It’s preseason college football watch list season and the latest release was the Doak Walker Award watch list. The award has been around since 1990 and goes to the college running back judged to be the best annually.

The Michigan football program has had some pretty remarkable running backs throughout its storied history and it’s no different this year with Donovan Edwards getting his chance to be the main playmaker in the backfield. He’s already had plenty of big plays during his Wolverine career and he was included in the list of names on the Doak Walker watch list.

Edwards nearly topped 1,000 yards in 2022 and tallied almost 500 yards last season as he spelled Blake Corum when needed. Don’t be surprised if he has one whale of a year in 2024.

If Corum can continue to be on the radar for the Doak Walker and bring it home, he will be just the second Michigan running back to take home the award, joining Chris Perry in 2003.
