Michigan Woman Wins $300K from Scratch-Off Ticket

A woman from Lapeer County, Michigan, was left in disbelief after winning a $300,000 top prize from a scratch-off ticket. The 54-year-old woman won the prize playing the Michigan Lottery’s Fire & Ice Cashword instant game.

While the fortunate player chose to remain anonymous, the lottery disclosed that the winning ticket had been sold at Murphy USA at 579 East Genesee Street in Lapeer. The woman went to the lottery headquarters to claim her prize and shared her thoughts on being a lottery winner.

The anonymous woman admitted to playing Cashword a lot and added that she always scans the tickets at the store to double-check them. However, the woman was left confused when one ticket asked her to file a claim.

Thinking that the machine had experienced a malfunction, the woman went to the cashier to double-check the ticket. Since the cashier’s machine showed the same message, the woman looked the ticket over again only to realize that she had won $300,000.

Excited about the win, the woman immediately went to brag to her mom who was just as exhilarated.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around winning $300,000! It feels so surreal.

The woman told lottery officials that she plans to use the money to pay off her home and pay bills.

As for the Fire & Ice Cashword, the game has so far handed $20 million to players since its launch in August. Prizes range from $5 to $300,000 and, according to the lottery, another $300,000 prize still remains unclaimed.
