Miguez: Kellen Moore has the Saints in a great position to succeed
The New Orleans Saints have just three weeks to go until the start of training camp.
Just four months in, Kellen Moore has the Black and Gold in a good spot early on.
From strong participation in OTAs to perfect attendance at mandatory minicamp along with two team bonding days, the feeling around the facility seems better than it was at this time a year ago.
Now, you may be on the side of “They’re football players, football is the only thing that matters, they don’t need team bonding”. But I’m not and guess what? That’s okay. We can agree to disagree.
In my opinion, when you have a first-year head coach, a rookie quarterback, and new faces at several positions, team chemistry may be the most important factor you can have.
So it’s important for the players to play a game of paintball or go to Five O Fore for a day of golf. That’s going to turn into chemistry on the field.
“I think it’s really important to build on a solid foundation, so that foundation is really built around people first and foremost,” Saints head coach Kellen Moore said following mandatory minicamp. “We certainly spent a lot of this time trying to find different avenues and opportunities for all of us to connect and spend time, whether it be an outing of paintball or golf or a community service event. I think that’s really, really important as you build a team.”
“You’ve got to connect everyone.”
The Saints will now rest and assess where they are roster-wise and what changes still need to be made before training camp begins on July 22.
