Minister hands over 70 units at J.A.Kufuor Housing Estate to GIS

The Ministry of Works and Housing and State Housing Company (SHC) have handed over 70 housing units of the J.A Kufuor Housing Estate at Oyoko Akrofrom in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

The sector minister, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said 100 housing units were being allotted to the GIS, but 70 out of the number had been completed.

He added that the final 30 housing units were in various states of development and would soon be completed and handed over to interested parties.

The Minister revealed that the government had resolve to give everyone, especially public sector workers with affordable housing, as it was considering both domestic and foreign funding in order to deal with the nation’s housing deficit problem.

He said the SHC, on behalf of the government, had initiated a methodical housing unit distribution programme throughout the country and as a result, the businesses had built eight state housing units around the country, giving Ghanaians access to hundreds of homes.

He further disclosed that the government would complete the affordable housing developments in Tamale and Koforidua which were initiated during the former President Kufuor’s administration.

The Managing Director of SHC, Kwabena Ampofo Appiah, commended the government for the unprecedented performance in terms of housing in the last seven years.

According to him, the project was started during the former President Kufuor’s regime in the Ashanti Region and completed by the current government, which he described as a testimony of hard work over the last seven years in housing delivering.

The Works and Housing Minister and his entourage seized the opportunity to inspect the hundred acre land which had been released by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to the ministry and SHC to embark on affordable housing project.
