MLB execs vote Red Sox budding star one of baseball’s best at his position
The 2024 MLB season is nearly over, as the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are set to battle in this year’s World Series starting on Friday.
To this point, the league has announced their award winners, but players around the league are being recognized for their contributions to their clubs during the 2024 campaign.
On Thursday, Sporting News released their 2024 All-Star teams, which over two dozen MLB executives from over half of the teams in the league voted on.Â
For the American League, there were many of the usual suspects, including Aaron Judge and Jose Ramirez. However, the Boston Red Sox had a breakout player this past season, who earned a spot – outfielder Jarren Duran.
Duran, 28, appeared in all but two of Boston’s games, hitting .285 with an .834 OPS, 21 home runs, 75 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. He also led the MLB in doubles (48) and tied for the most triples (14).
The budding Red Sox start also saw a massive improvement in the field, jumping from -6 defensive runs saved in 2023 to 23 defensive runs saved in 2024.
Interestingly, all three of the American League outfielders on this list were from the AL East, with Judge and Juan Soto also earning spots.
If Duran can replicate this past season, he’ll be considered one of the best outfielders in baseball for the foreseeable future. That’s an incredible leap from being considered a fringe MLB player after last season.
