Blake Snell is officially off the market.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the reigning NL Cy Young winner had agreed to a two-year, $62 million deal with the San Francisco Giants that has a opt-out following the 2024 season.

He joins a rotation that already boasts Logan Webb and Robby Ray and will hope to help turn around a team that went 79-83 and missed the playoffs in 2023.

What is also notable is the team that Snell didn’t end up with–the New York Yankees. The franchise was interested in Snell, although talks were stalled due luxury tax concerns by the Yankees, per Heyman.

Now that he is off the market, fans took to social media to rip into the Yankees for its inability to sign the superstar southpaw.

Russ Manalastas @RussPTI get the Yanks were worried about having to pay big in luxury tax by having another big contract but there’s no reason they shouldn’t haven’t taken this on especially given Cole’s status. https://t.co/I7KMqdvwBI

Maury Brown @BizballMaurySnell to the Giants is honestly a great fit. Still can’t believe the Yankees didn’t land him. But then again, FA is a two-way street.

Snell went 14-9 with a 2.25 ERA in 2023 with the San Diego Padres. If New York had signed him, it would have trotted out both the reigning NL and AL Cy Young winners, as Gerrit Cole is currently the team’s ace.
