The Los Angeles Angels are reportedly considering going after a big-name free agent ahead of the 2024 season.

Per the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Angels are eyeing free agents Blake Snell, Cody Bellinger and Jordan Montgomery.

“The Angels have been mulling whether to make a run at big-time free agents Snell, Montgomery or Cody Bellinger,” Heyman wrote.

Along with potentially adding a big name in free agency, the Angels are also eyeing some depth pieces, per Heyman.

“But they are … said to be considering former Met Amed Rosario, Kiké Hernandez and a solid back-end starter like (Michael) Lorenzen, an Orange County and Cal-State Fullerton product who may like the idea of going home,” Heyman wrote.

The Angels, who have a big hole to fill after losing Shohei Ohtani to the Los Angeles Dodgers, are coming off a 73-89 season that saw them miss the postseason for a ninth consecutive year. While Ohtani is nearly irreplaceable, picking up a big piece to play alongside Mike Trout would be huge.

Snell, who won the NL Cy Young Award last year with the San Diego Padres, started 32 games, notching a career-high 234 strikeouts and a 2.25 ERA.

Bellinger is coming off a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs. The center fielder hit at a career-high .304, picking up 153 hits, 26 home runs and 97 RBI.

Montgomery, who was a trade-deadline acquisition by the Texas Rangers last season, started 11 games on the mound for them, notching 58 strikeouts and a 2.79 ERA. He was integral in the Rangers’ World Series run, recording a 2.90 ERA and picking up 17 strikeouts.

If the Angels sign a big name, they will likely have to take on a big contract, but it could be what they need to finally snap an ugly postseason drought.
