MNF Reactions: What happened to the Saints in Kansas City
Monday night football is always a great night of football, especially this week’s contest which featured the New Orleans Saints vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. Unfortunately, The Saints got off to a bad start with quarterback Derek Carr throwing an interception on the first drive of the game. This interception is easily cashed in by the Chiefs to take an early 7-0 lead. This game looked like it could get ugly early as the Chiefs added 3 points to their lead with a Harrison Butker field goal to take a 10-0 lead. However, the Saints fought back and scored a touchdown off of a 43-yard pass from Derek Carr to Rashid Shaheed to make it a 10-7 ballgame. The Chiefs would eventually kick 2 more field goals and take a 16-7 lead to halftime.
The second half starts, and the Chiefs got the ball and drive it down the field all the way to the goal line. Their drive is halted by one of the most entertaining interceptions you’ll ever see in an NFL game. Saints defensive tackle Khalen Saunders picks Mahomes off in the endzone and takes it back for a 37-yard return, giving the Saints some life. The Saints capitalize on the interception with a touchdown to make it a 13-16 game. Unfortunately for the Saints, it’s the Chiefs on the opposing side of field, and they respond back with a touchdown of their own to give themselves a ten-point lead. The game was all but over after this Chiefs touchdown and with another field goal by Harrison Butker the Chiefs get the win on Monday Night Football 26-13.
This game had moments of being interesting but for the most part it felt like the Chiefs always had control. Even when the Saints scored and made it a close 13-16 ballgame, I still never quite got the feeling they were going to win this game. This is because I think the Chiefs were the superior more team in all facets of the game last night. It doesn’t matter who on offense is injured for the Chiefs, as long as they have Mahomes and Andy Reid they will be just fine. As for the Saints, they now have a long road ahead of them. They are staring 2-4 in the face with a short week game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, followed by the Denver Broncos just 4 days later. If they can’t get it together soon, this season could get ugly fast.
