The Egyptian FA then released a statement to confirm that Salah had suffered a strain in his back muscle and would miss Egypt’s next two games at AFCON, before he flew back to Liverpool to be assessed.
But taking to social media, it seems that the 31-year-old’s injury could be worse than first feared.
Taking to X, Ramy Abbas Issa said: Mohamed’s injury is more serious than first thought and he will be out for 21-28 days, and not two games.
“His best chance at participating in the current AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoining the team as soon as he is fit.”

Speaking of the injury on Friday, Klopp said: “We don’t know anything.
“I spoke with him last night. They are doing further assessments. In the moment it was a shock.
He felt it and we know how rarely Mo goes off so there was something.”
